Blaze: orange on Horse Cove Trail, metal on John Rock Trail, yellow on Saddle Trail, and orange on Cat Gap Trail

Location: Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina
Turn off of highway 64 onto 276 into the Pisgah Forest from Brevard. Drive 5.4 miles and turn left on road 475. Drive 1.5 miles and turn left on 475C into the fish hatchery parking lot. If you are in the parking lot facing the stream (with the fish hatchery on your left and John Rock behind you), walk toward the right end of the parking lot by the stream. The trail begins here at the southeast corner of the parking lot.
Note: John Rock is often wet and slippery.
0.1 bear right at fork, cross bridge, then turn left
0.3 bear right at fork and cross bridge
0.4 turn right onto wider trail
0.8 first orange blaze since 0.4
0.9 bridge, then rock-hopping stream crossing

1.8 intersection: right up hill goes to John Rock (metal blazes),
left up hill Horse Cove Trail continues (orange blazes), straight
ahead is The Saddle (yellow blazes) to Cat Gap Trail.
2.5 continue straight at double metal blaze (don't turn left)
2.7 John Rock
There's a great view of Looking Glass Rock from John Rock.
(I couldn't record mileage data on the way back.)
