Location: Sumter National Forest, South Carolina

Driving south from Abbeville on highway 28, turn left at the sign indicating Parson's Mountain Recreation Area. Drive a couple of miles to the stop sign and turn right. Drive a couple of miles to the next stop sign and turn left. Drive to the next stop sign and turn left. Then turn left at the next opportunity. (If you get to the Promised Land community you've gone too far.) Drive beyond the end of the pavement so that you are on FR 509. When 509-C goes right, drive a few more feet and turn left. Park at the roadblock. Walk south around the roadblock and follow the white blazes.

1.1 rock-hop across Little Muckaway Creek, then bear left at junction
(the right turn bisects the Long Cane Trail loop)

1.6 old homestead clearing on right with flowers and big live oak
2.0 cross gas pipeline
2.1 cross George Devlin Branch
2.3 ascend out of woods into large field
2.5 cross road on high side of field and bear right into woods beside small shack
(the road left goes to Fell Hunt Camp)
2.6 bear left at fork
2.7 cross stream
2.8 leave woods and enter a large clear-cut area
(I continued straight ahead across the open area although there was no discernible trail.)
2.9 On the high side of the open area is the end of a new gravel road and
an intersection with a blue-blazed motorcycle trail. I continued past
the road and followed the motorcycle trail.)
3.2 cross stream
3.5 turn right on dirt road leaving motorcycle trail
3.6 turn right on dirt road
3.7 turn left on Long Cane Trail at intersection near small shack
